Legal Question of the Week

If you and a friend each own 50% of a property that you bought together to run a business, what happens if one of you passes away?

Answer - Unless the Deed clearly states the property is owned as Joint Tenants, with a Right of Survivorship, the 50% owned by the deceased person will pass to their family and heirs. You would now own the property with your friend's family. Check the Title on the Deed, it's important!
